General Sign Regulations
Exempt from Permits
Temporary political, garage sale, and real estate signs
which meet general regulations, and must not be greater than six (6) square
feet, are exempt from permit requirements.
General Regulations
All signs and structures shall be kept in good repair and
a proper state of presentation.
No sign shall be placed at any location where it may
interfere or obstruct the view of any traffic sign, signal or device, or
constitute a hazard to traffic.
No sign shall be located on or extend over the
right-of-way of any dedicated street, highway or public way, or pedestrian
sidewalk.
No sign or part thereof shall be located on any property
without the consent of the owner, holder, lessee, agent or trustee.
Off-premise signs are prohibited – no off-site advertising
is allowed.
Generally, signs must be:
12 feet back from residential streets;
25 feet from 66th, 72nd, 96th,
108th, Giles Road, and Harrison Street
50 feet from 84th and 144th
Streets
Prevailing situations, property layout, etc. could affect
this general rule.
Garage Sales
Allowed within all residential districts as a permitted
temporary use, provided:

No more than four per calendar year
·
No sale items to be located within the street right-of-way
·
Sale shall not exceed a four-day period
·
Signs are not located within street right-of-way. This is
generally the following distance from the curb:
o
12 feet back from residential streets;
o
25 feet from 66th, 72nd, 96th,
108th, Giles Road and Harrison Street;
o
50 feet from 84th and 144th Streets
·
No more than one per lot with permission from the lot owner
·
Signs not to exceed six square feet
·
Signs are promptly removed following sale (failure to remove
sign may forfeit future advertisement)
·
Signs shall not be located within the sight triangle, or affect
the health, safety, and general welfare of the public
Political Signs
All political and election signs shall not be erected or
maintained more than thirty (30) days prior to the election to which it
relates and shall be removed within ten (10) days following such election. Note:
Political signs may not be displayed on any city owned property.
Auctions:
Allowed within any zoned district as permitted temporary
use, provided.

No more than one per calendar year
·
Auction is for retirement, estate, bankruptcy, or other similar
reasons
·
City has been notified at least two weeks prior to the auction
·
Signs are not located within street right-of-way. This is
generally the following distance from the curb:
o
12 feet back from residential streets;
o
25 feet from 66th, 72nd, 96th,
108th, Giles Road and Harrison Street;
o
50 feet from 84th and 144th Streets
·
No more than one per lot with permission from the lot owner
·
Signs not to exceed six square feet
·
