Community Development COVID-19 Information
In a continued effort to contain the spread of the Coronavirus, effective immediately, the City of La Vista is restricting public access to all City buildings including the Community Development office.
Community Development staff will still be answering phones during normal business hours, but walk-ins will not be allowed.
Please submit all applications digitally, if possible, by e-mail or by fax (402-593-6445). If you have physical building plans or materials samples that must be submitted in-person, please give us a call ahead of time to arrange a drop-off.

The City of La Vista Building Department will be suspending all non-essential interior inspections for occupied buildings in-person until further notice. This includes all rental inspections that do not have a life-safety component. The City of La Vista will conduct virtual inspections, when feasible, for occupied spaces. Please review these Virtual Inspection Guidelines (PDF) for more information on how to schedule and conduct your inspections virtually. The Community Development Department is responsible for all aspects of La Vista’s commercial and residential development, including:
- Land Use Applications
- Plan and Code Review for architects, engineers, developers, contractors and property owners.
La Vista’s Community Development Department provides a comprehensive review process of all development plans and building permits to assure compliance with city codes and ordinances.
In addition, La Vista’s Building Inspectors perform on-site inspections for all new construction, alterations, renovations and repairs to buildings within the city limits and the extraterritorial jurisdiction.
The Community Development Department also issues final certificates of occupancy, assigns street names and addresses and administers and interprets the following:
- Zoning Ordinance
- Subdivision Regulations
- Comprehensive Plan
- Park Master Plan and
- Building Codes
This department also provides staff assistance to the Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment.
